The Smith Family
A beautiful area steeped in history
If you don't want beach and you want somewhere with beautfiul countryside all around and historical features then stay in or around Ourem. Ourem has a magnificent walled castle with pubs, coffee shops, pousada (hotel) inside the walls. Steeped in history. Shopping is good with a number of good supermarkets (Modelo, Intermarche, Lidl, Aldi). Plenty of coffee shops, restaurants, banks. Within easy driving distance of Leiria, Fatima, Tomar with its wonderful Monastery. The people are friendly and helpful and easy-going. Large discos and dance halls on the outskirts, Kayane being one of the better known. Live band on one side and disco on the other. Olives, fruit and local vineyards are all around. The area is truly magical and completely different to the coast.

Tiny village on the top of a mountain. A very nice and small aquare and very narrow gate where you have to wring your car through… Nice ruin at the top of the mountain and of course a magnificent view. Not accessible without car.
