Too big and too many cars!
I am not really fond of big cities - would rather be out in the country!

Well, it's Paris, non?
Paris it's Paris, and the offer about cultural events, shows of any kind and any kind of food is amazing as usual. it was a long time, since my last visit here, and I really enjoy it, notwithstanding the cold weather. I found Paris a bit "trop chere", especially on the souvenir side and on tourist spot (I was there with tourists friends). To go up walking the steps of the Eiffel tower is now 11 euro, the elevator is at 18 euro. In the only shop (actually a stall) selling "authorized souvenir" a small Eiffel tower-key holder (I wont mention the rest) cost a "mere" 5 Euro! oh la la!! Outside Versailles 6 of the same objects at 5 Euro, from the (multilingual) guys selling on the street. Mac Donald on the Champ-Elysees is selling the same cookies that in Italy (Pisa, just beside the Piazza dei Miracoli) cost Euro 1.20, at 2.40! I think it is not justifiable, even if you are in Paradise Street. So beware of the costs. I know that Paris is under stress, because the recent spat of terrorist attacks, but a more smiley attitude in the major tourists spots may help (at the Louvre the attitude of some of the guys is really freezingly distant and sometime you have the feeling that you are there to bother them. On the contrary, in LV boutique on the Champs-Elysees were quite patient and friendly, even if it was quite clear that my friends were only curious). It would be nice to read in advance, somewhere on line, if some major rooms at the Louvre are closed (the same for other tourists attractions: at Versailles also some areas were closed) for whatever reasons: I have been walking all the way to the Richelieu Dutch masters area to admire Veermer, just to know there, on arrival, that the room was closed. Doh! An espresso at 2.20 Euro? and a Pain au Chocolat at 1.90 Euro? (at "Brioche doree'" a la Gare de Lyon) to me looks like a rip off, maybe they need to buy gold to make the brioche more doree'. So I skipped that, and I also suggest you to skip them, and go to some good old fashion boulangerie for your croissants and pains, with or without chocolat, and to some proper cafe', for your caffeine fix: at least are nice, warm and you can sit while brooding on the cost. Metro now cost Euro 1.90 (!) for a trip: if you stay 3 days or more, and want to really go around taking those pics of major spots without worn out shoes and knees, it's maybe advisable to get those 3 or more days passes, and make out the most of them. I am saying something useless now: even if winter, judging by the crowd going there to visit, would be nice if Versailles maybe open at least one hour longer. I gave 7 in eco-sustainability because that dog poo poo around (but how big are the pets in Paris?? Do they keep small ponies in their flats?) sometimes it is really unbearable, and during night time they could be slimy traps! Also there are not many trash bins around where to dispose separately of plastic, paper, aluminum, and in so doing recycling materials. From one of the "world capitals", I would expect otherwise.

Great city, a must see.
Good city to walk around in, but distances are deceptive. Plan ahead!

Great city
Paris has a lot for tourists like great shopping and the many many beautiful buildings. I felt safe there, there where many police officers at the attractions. But we walked trough some small streets i wouldn't do in the dark.
